Time at the Beach

Since the last few weeks of kindergarten were all about sea life, we have had a ton of conversations about what lives in the ocean, what lives in the lake, and what does a sea anemone feel like. This past weekend we went to the aquarium and the beach and got a lot of touchy feeling experiences. Nothing is better learning that touching a real life sea creature!

We never figured out what this was!

Riding a 2 Wheeler

My son saw that his cousin, just 6 months older, could ride a 2 wheel bike, while his still had his training wheels (he just turned 5). He still had to choose his gift from his grandparents, so he asked for a 2 wheel bike with a kick stand. He is a tall boy and we actually had to get him a 20 in. bike (the 16 in did not have a kickstand!), but we found one with a low seat. He rode in circles as hubby and I held on. Then I went in and looked on the internet for ideas. Using some great guidelines to teach a child to ride a bike, we raised the training wheels on his little bike and let him try- and he balanced. So we took those off in a few minutes and let him try down the driveway into the grass and I let go! He did it. So we moved back to the big bike and he could do it! Yeah! He cannot get on without holding on, but he can peddle away.

Yeah!

And boy am I tired from running along in the hot FL sun!
Whew!

Pictures to be posted soon!

The Joys of the Park

Here in Florida, the park is just something you have to avoid during the summer time. Even in the evenings, the park is just too hot. But now as the weather is cooling to a wonderful 85 degrees in the evenings, the park is the perfect place to go. We have gone two nights in a row and have had a great time. Mostly, it is because they can almost both navigate all the equipment. Even my little 2 year old was scaling the disc climbing thing. I almost freaked... but I let her do it. My rule is if you can do it yourself, you are allowed to do it. So she did it... over and over and over again.
It is so much fun to enjoy the outdoors. Yes, in Florida, it is hot for most of June, all of July and August, and most of September. But the remainder of the year makes it soooooo worth it to me to tough out those hot months.

And there is always a pool, the hose, and air conditioning to get you through those tough months!
